Understanding blepharoplasty
What blepharoplasty involves
Upper blepharoplasty removes excess eyelid skin — and sometimes a small amount of muscle or fat — through an incision hidden in the natural eyelid crease. Lower blepharoplasty addresses under-eye fat prominence and skin laxity, often through an incision just beneath the lash line or, in some cases, inside the eyelid. Because heaviness around the eyes can also come from brow descent rather than eyelid skin, assessment matters: Dr Mariam Manukyan will identify which is contributing before confirming the scope of surgery.

Often suitable where
- Excess upper eyelid skin, hooding or under-eye fat prominence
- Healthy eyes with no untreated dry eye or ocular condition
- Able to avoid screens, driving and contact lenses in early recovery
- Understands that dark circles and fine lines may remain unchanged
Usually not appropriate where
- Significant untreated dry eye, glaucoma or thyroid eye disease
- Heaviness caused mainly by brow descent, which eyelid surgery will not correct
- Unable to protect healing eyes from sun and strain

Recovery timeline
How recovery typically unfolds

Days 1–2
Day-case surgery with cold compresses, head elevation and rest.
Days 3–7
Clinic-based recovery in Yerevan; sutures are usually removed around day five to seven before travel.
Weeks 2–4
Bruising fades; most patients feel comfortable socially within two to three weeks. Screen time increases gradually.
Months 2–6
Fine incision lines continue to soften and settle into the natural eyelid contours.
